The Witness sophomore effort sees Jack O'Hara Harris branching out into tighter compositions with more spartan instrumentation. More emphasis on lyrical depth and at times swooning vocals can be found on this record. Themes on these creations are darker and harsher than on The Witness' first release, Rapture. Concentrating even more on crafting lyrical poetry. Even the song titles themselves become single line poems. Veering more into post-punk territory, but keeping a driving beat, the inspiration from this album ranges from early Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds to Geinoh Yamashirogumi and back to Anna von Hausswolff with traces of My Bloody Valentine and Spacemen 3. Hints of Rowland S. Howard, Dick Dale, and Peter Kember can all be heard in the swirling and ascetic guitar lines generously coupled with rhythmic bass guitar reminiscent of Tracy Pew. If Rapture was a proof of concept than Recording The Bodies For Social Media has taken that concept to a darker, but more melodic conclusion.
